Coeur d’Alene or Boise…winter weather compared

Coeur d’Alene or Boise…winter weather compare

That smirk you see on my face is me laughing inside when I hear the masses moving to the Boise area instead of Coeur d’Alene, under the false perception that “North Idaho has more severe winters than Southern Idaho.”

Any Boise State Football lovin’ North Idahoan will tell you that we brave the traffic and the wind chill to see our Broncos when we go down to Boise. While in Boise we joke with our southern neighbors that we can’t wait to get back to our “hills and stills” just to get out of the wind.

All joking aside, if you are considering where to live in Idaho, you need to visit and compare North Idaho and Southern Idaho for yourself…don’t take the word of this heavily biased North Idaho real estate agent or that of every other Southern Idahoan who moved to Boise instead of Coeur d’Alene because they “heard” the winters in North Idaho are too severe.

Here are some winter weather facts provided by the Western Regional Climate Center.

Coeur d’ Alene averages 46 inches of snow per year…Boise averages 57 inches per year.

Coeur d’Alene avg. winter low is 23.96 degrees…Boise avg. winter low is 23.86 degrees.

Coeur d’Alene avg. winter high is 37.23 degrees…Boise avg. winter high is 38.26 degrees.

Coeur d’Alene avg. rainfall per year is 25.33 inches…Boise avg. rainfall per year is 18.85

Below are the detailed average charts for you to compare Coeur d’Alene to Boise for yourself:
